Utopia 500 commemorates five hundred years since the publication of Thomas More’s Utopia. The project has been carried out globally throughout 2016 and it will continue to play an active role in the implementation of the notion of utopia as a driver of social change and as a source of inspiration for innovation in science and technology.

The project is being jointly carried out by CETAPS — Centre for English, Translation and Anglo-Portuguese Studies (Univ. of Porto and Nova de Lisboa), by Óbidos — Vila Literária, and by the Utopian Studies Society/Europe. It includes several sections — Great Utopians, Ecotopia and Pan-Utopia 2100 — along with a previous international conference held in Lisbon last July and the celebrated literary festival Folio (Óbidos, September/October).
