"In Peace Apart" makes headlines in Northern Ireland
December 15, 2015
Throughout the year, the story of Yvonne Weir and Courtney Cooke swapping their school uniforms in the divided city of Derry has captured the imaginations of people around the world. In In Peace Apart, a video produced by Derry students Courtney Cooke, Jack Scarlett, Yvonne Weir, and Jennie Marshall, these four students come together to explore the personal, social, and geographic separation in the city’s history.
The Irish Independent writes, “A Protestant and Catholic schoolgirl from Derry swap uniforms and take a walk through their city together to make a short film. In another place, the act wouldn’t be remarkable but in Northern Ireland, where emblems, colours, flags and uniforms are potent symbols of difference, it is utterly subversive.”
